You are just a bunch of NIMBY’s!

I am so tired of hearing this accusation used against the many anti wind farm groups up and down the country. I for one am not a ‘NIMBY’! I don’t want it in my back yard but I don’t want them in anyone else’s either.

I live between Loddington and Orton where there is a small network of local footpaths giving access to the countryside, something that we are all entitled to. A local landowner has added  a permissive right of way to this making a beautiful walk with lovely views.

When I stop in the middle of my walk and look east I can see the 10 turbines of Burton Wold wind farm shortly to be joined by another 8; when I turn a few degrees to the south I see the site of the proposed 4 turbine Great Cransley wind farm; turn a few more degrees I see the site of the proposed 2 turbines at Mercedes in Brixworth; a few more degrees the proposed 7 between Brixworth and Hanging Houghton; a few more degrees the proposed 7 at  Kelmarsh and I don’t even need to turn to see the 7 in front of that are proposed at the Harrington airfield.

It may be true that “no one has the right to a view”, but surely in the English countryside you should have a view of the English countryside not a sprawling wind power station.

And before you say that that is the price to pay to save the planet from global warming, well it won’t, the contribution wind can make will always be negligible because of the needs of the national grid. Only a small percentage of electricity can come from wind. All experts agree that what is needed is a balance of production of which wind has a part to play and that wind should be offshore.
