Noise and possible Health Effects
What is it about The Great Cransley Wind Farm that we should be worried about ?
Clearly alternative energy sources need to be considered: electricity generation using wind turbines may well be an important part of this, but there are still considerations over their efficiency. Case histories from areas around the country and international research from eminent sources indicate that the low frequency air pressure changes and resulting sound, called vibroacoustic effects, can cause significant detrimental health problems.
The range of symptoms includes headaches, sleep disturbance, anxiety, depression, stress, vertigo and ringing in the ears (tinnitus). People also complain of the noise, vibration and shadow flicker.
The analogy is often drawn between the site currently at Burton Latimer, called Burton Wold, and the potential site just outside Great Cransley.
The cases are indeed very different.
- Burton Wold wind turbines are much further away from the village houses with the busy A6 road in between.
- The landscape is much more undulating, the village of Burton Latimer actually being in a dip away from the wind turbines.
- Burton Latimer is an industrially developed area with a large factory and massive distribution depot. Great Cransley, Broughton and Mawsley are small villages with no significant industrial activity.
- The potential positioning of the Great Cransley Windfarm turbines are much closer to houses- only 800 m - and the landscape is almost totally flat with no significant tree growth. Any vibroacoustic effects would be able to travel un-interrupted towards Great Cransley, Broughton and Mawsley thereby maximising any health effects.
- The position of this proposed windfarm is quite different to Burton Wold, the turbines are TOO BIG and TOO NEAR and will undoubtedly cause problems.
DO attend the meeting next Sunday 21st September 11am at The Centre at Mawsley and find out more!
This proposal will affect EVERYONE in Mawsley, Great Cransley, Broughton and surrounding villages - NOT just the residents close to the proposed turbines!
